What’s Your Secret Sauce?

I recently took a strengths test for a business class that I am currently taking and my top 5 categories are:
1. Activator, instead of waiting for something to happen I take the initiative.
2. Command, the best way to describe it is like basically the "leader" and willing to impose your opinions on others.
3. Deliberative, careful/serious characteristic and not really willing to take risks.
4. Harmony, basically willing to work with others despite not really liking them as long as the work is done.
5. Relator, tries to relate to others in order to understand what they're going through.

Well to summarize my interviews since all of them are pretty much the same. Everyone I interviewed pretty much said something along the lines of how hardworking, dedicated, and how I am a great friend. Personally, I see myself as someone who is just average. Like not the best or worst at things but I'm able to get by with my mediocre skills. Other people see me as hard working and a great friend. What I think causes these differences is how I see myself compared to how other people see me. I wouldn't really make any changes because what my friends said were pretty much the results of my strength test.

  1. Hi David!

I'm interested in which Business class you took that you were able to find out your strengths. I'm interested in knowing mine :) It sounds like your friends think highly of you, so that's awesome that you feel like you get by, but they see you as hardworking! Kind of a great way to get through life lol! If interested, here's my blog :)

  2. Hi David,

It sounds like a pretty accurate test, since what other's said about you aligned so well with your results. Being an activator, having the ability to command, careful deliberating, creating harmony, and relating to others are definitely characteristics of successful people, so try giving yourself a little bit more credit... If you see yourself as average, you probably will accomplish average things. However, if you use self affirmation and consider yourself as "great" or "skilled" or "special," you will likely believe in yourself more, and you will actually accomplish much higher than average things! It all starts with YOU.

  3. David,
I agree no need to change as your qualities, your secret sauce are all great qualities. They are qualities that will definitely get you far where you want to go and achieve. This assignment was great to get a perspective on our strengths and weakness. Learning who we are is a great tool to use when we are trying to achieve something.

  4. Hi David, I think you did a very good job in identifying your strengths as well as comparing those with how those around you view you. I think your perspective is certainly a unique one as you did take that business class that helped you better identify your strengths and I found this very intriguing. I can certainly relate with some of your strengths, especially the harmony one and its relation to group projects. Overall great post!

  5. Hey David, I wish you could've elaborated more on your second human capital skill. Being in command, do you mean you like to take charge and direct people? I really like the activator skill, and I'm the same way! It's always good to get the ball rolling right away instead of sitting around and letting people do it themselves! I actually agree with Leah's comment about you being average. No one is average! You have to dig deep in yourself and find out who you really are so you can seperate yourself from feeling just "average."

  6. Hi David,
You did a great job at collecting this information. I like how you added a test of your strengths to compare people's responses to. I think what they've all said proves that you're far from average! I see how you work ahead in this class so I'd definitely agree that you are a smart and hard working individual. Great job!
